Invisalign Clear Aligners
When you think about dental braces, does your mind automatically go to the conventional braces that fill your mouth with a network of metal wires and brackets? If you have been considering orthodontic treatment to improve the appearance of your smile and give you a healthier bite, you may be wondering what your treatment options are.
It is understandable to feel a little bit hesitant, too, about conventional braces, especially if you are a professional adult or you fear you may be self-conscious if you were wearing regular dental braces. When we here at First Impressions Orthodontics for Children & Adults meet a patient who is curious about orthodontic treatment, we like to educate them about Invisalign clear aligners as an option.
What Is Invisalign and How Can It Help Me?
Getting orthodontic treatment is a huge step for you, and it is understandable if you are feeling nervous and uncertain about what type of braces are best for you. You may be feeling a combination of excitement and trepidation, or you may feel like you would like to improve the appearance of your smile, but you do not think you are a good candidate for conventional braces. For our patients who are looking to adjust their teeth but may not want conventional braces for personal reasons, they may be interested in learning more about Invisalign.
Invisalign is a special type of orthodontic treatment to help adjust minor-to-moderate cosmetic or bite flaws in your teeth. If you suffer from malocclusion, then you may be a good candidate for Invisalign clear aligners. They can help improve dental problems such as an overbite, an underbite, an open bite, and even crowded teeth. Uneven gaps and spaces are a thing of the past after treatment with Invisalign. Unlike conventional braces, which require a mouthful of wires and brackets, Invisalign uses a custom-patented clear thermoplastic material to adjust your teeth without calling unnecessary attention to your mouth.
Unlike conventional braces, which require that you maneuver your diet and your oral hygiene routine carefully, Invisalign is much simpler to use. You do not have to avoid certain foods, as you can take Invisalign out for up to two hours per day. Use those two hours for eating and brushing and flossing. Please know that you will need to wear your Invisalign while you sleep. Invisalign is also quite comfortable when compared to conventional braces, and our patients report that adjustments lead to less aching in their mouth. There are also no metal components that might nick or abrade your gums or soft tissue in your mouth.
Is Invisalign Is Right For You?
Treatment with Invisalign may be finished in as little as a year, but you will start to notice improvements in the first month after starting treatment. You will need to come back for follow-up appointments for adjustments and new aligners, so make sure you do not miss any of those appointments. We will also want to check your progress every four to six weeks to make sure we are happy with how your teeth are coming along.
Invisalign is a great option for many of our patients, giving them convenience and discretion when getting orthodontic treatment. It is a fantastic option for professional adults and teenagers, too!
